United States President - Thomas Jefferson
Monticello
Charlottesville, Virginia

On April 16, 1807, Thomas Jefferson noted in his Weather Memorandum Book that he planted:

"1. Laurodendron in margin of SW [shrub circle] from the nursery."

Laurodendron is a derivative of the scientific name for a tulip popular tree.  This is the exact spot that this tree was growing intil 2008 when it had to be removed for safty concerns, as it was in serious decline.
